PANAMA: Panamanians will say "yes" to expansion

Panamanians will go to the ballot box on 22 October to decide whether the canal should be expanded. The canal has been the country's lifeline since its inauguration in 1914. According to supporters of the expansion project, however, the canal will soon become obsolete if it is not enlarged to allow the passage of post-Panamax ships. The project is expected to cost some US$5.2bn.
